Looking for info on these Patatos

Postby clayburn » Mon Mar 27, 2017 8:09 pm

Just picked up these Patatos and am hoping someone can give me a little background on them. I know they aren't early 'vintage' cos they don't have the traditional hoops, nor are they the newer version due to the label not being round or with the 'hat'. I'm guessing the writing inside the Tumbadora (see pic) is the manufacturing date 28-2-91. Also, there is this odd looking label (see pic) stuck to the inside of the Conga, with what appears to be foreign writing.
The reason I'm asking is: when I buy replacement heads (probably pre-mounted, but not LP water buffalo), most of the vendors want to know if I have Comfort Curve II rims, but I'm not sure. Was there a Comfort Curve I? If so, is it much different than CCII's?
Finally (just curious), maybe someone here was the previous owner of these beauties. I bought them from Guitar Center in Lexington Kentucky and had them shipped to their San Jose California store.
If they were yours, is there a history on them? Gigs? LOL they sure smelled of cigarette smoke when I got them...not complaing though, they sound great!
Thanks~
Glen

Here's the Patato model with the Comfort Curve II hoop : http://www.lpmusic.com/products/congas/lp/patato-signature-conga

Since yours got a label on the rim, and my Giovannis, which have got the 2nd generation, have no label, I suppose you own the 1rst Comfort Curve generation. I think then it's a standart replacement head. But I could be wrong, so wait for other answers.

clayburn, Congratulations that a sweet looking set of Patatos! These are all standard is size, 11" Quinto, 11.75 Conga and 12.5" Tumba, the same goes for the Original series. Yours do in fact have the first series comfortcurve.
I just got this set two days ago but I have had others, as you can see mine are a later series and have the newer cumfortcurve II

Two sets of Original Series as you can see, one set with Comfortcurve II and the other with traditional hardware which is my personal favorite on any drum.

Thanks for the info!
I agree, the difference between the 1st and 2nd generation Comfort Curve Rims seems minimal. Hopefully it shouldn't affect the fit of a new pre-fitted head.

No, not on Patato's.

You can take the heads off and bring them to a music shop to compare with new skins to be sure.
