I was refering to the 12 1/2" tumba not the 14" super tumba, the super tumba is the only one with the right size, the rest are about 1/2 inch undersize. Has anyone heard of a 12 inch conga?

Alafia Abures!
I hope that you are all well and abundantly blessed!

I had a set of 4 Palladiums at one point, 2 - 12.50", 2 - 14" Supertumbas, my main drum (the one I used in the middle as my conga), was one of the 12.50." In my opinion, it sounded great. Of course I didn't tune it to the pitch nearest a quinto, but rather a a conga tone. My Matthew Smith congas are 12.75" (my main drum), 13", 13.50", 13.75," they all sound great.

Stay well!

Onile!

I had stripped the "peewadden" outta them, just didn't like the look from the factory!

I also mounted new skins on them!

Thanks Onile and Salseroboricua for your info...

Onile what size are those painted palladiums?

What skins do you guys recomend me for my two 12" Palladium tumbas...One used as a conga and the other one as a tumba. I have a mule skin on the tumba, but it doesnt project and lacks body..I have tried different tunings..

Saludos,

I happened to stop by my local sam ash music store on Sunday and I seen a set of gio palladiums on sale for $350 each ( quinto & conga) , I wanted to buy them on the spot but didn't have enough cash...so I waited till Friday (payday) went back and bought the conga. Its practically brand new, can't wait to strip it the finish, and stain it a red mahogany\cherry blend much like onile did to his...
As for the sound......wow, I know LP mass produces & no offense to the proud owners of hand made artisan drums, but these drums are definitley in a different league than most thailand congas, I got home and practiced marcha and wow I literally heard how loud they are & felt a thunder\vibration go through the body shell, that's never happened to me with anyother conga..the hardware is heavy duty.. for $350 I think I got a good deal....

Great pick up bro (b0ng0) ....and also great finding this old tread that i didnt pay that much attention back then.

I love online's customization of his palladiums, i hope yours finish like that.
I think you should have picked up the quinto, which is a little more hard to find, they always say they have to special order that size, so it's really rare to find a quinto on the sales floor at a clearance price...i know because about 2 years ago i was hunting a set of palladiums at music stores, like sam ash, and guitar center, they never had them at the store always special order, and lowest price $ 500.00 per drum...so excellent pick up...
now thatthey are older things are changing in price.

I am happy you scored big time, tell ur bro to pick up the quinto...or else i will

I want one too now....but you know how much i love quinto's .
Please post pics of your new pick up.

I think that's an amazing deal! I have a set of 4 Palladiums in all the sizes (the quinto doesn't get much use - but is a bit hard to sell on its own).
I paid way more than $350 a drum – when it comes to music imports we git a ripped off a bit down here in Australia.

I agree the Palladiums are in a different league to most Thailand made congas. My first play on them back in '05 convinced me to buy them shortly after.
I've been very happy with them, apart from the weight factor, but I use a trolley when setting up for gigs now so it's no big deal.
