Looking for Slingerland Congas

Hello Congaplace,

I am looking to purchase a second set of vintage Slingerland congas. If you have a set for sale please let me know. I have picked up a set last month and I will be having the shells re-painted soon. I would like another set. Also any info on these congas would be welcome.

I had a pair of Slingerland congas that I sold about 2 years ago. Now I regret selling them, they sounded great, much better than LPs with no overtones. Here is a photo of them. Patato had a set of yellow ones in the early 70's.

These Slingerland congas are more like the traditional type we know of today. Not the cone shape type. I have repaired the shells and now will start sanding and filling in small marks. Then I will have them painted by a Pro. I am undecided about the color.

Yes, those look way better built than the ones listed on ebay, I wasn't aware that slingerland had more than one type of conga. I never really understood the cone shaped congas like these and ludwigs with the regular drum head and key tuned lugs. I can't imagine them sounding very good at all.

Are the ones you posted fiberglass or wood? Did they come in both models?

I think the American drum companys all jumped on the band wagon and built the cone shaped congas because at the time Latin Music was becoming popular in the U.S.A. The cone shape sounded very bad. I see the cone shaped congas for sale all the time but I would not want them.
