Our percussionist brought one to the gig last week. It sounded OK, not much projection though and the slaps were not as cutting as a real conga. Open tones sounded pretty good, no bass whatsoever. Would make a good drum to use for quiet gigs.

There is another thread a couple of pages back that has some discussion on the travel conga:

Their ok for practice, but I don't care for the sound much... BUT, they are still very portable..

Thinking about picking these up...

Regarding the skin replacement, will they take a normal Fiberskyn head?

Besides the pros and cons, has anyone experienced any performance or maintenance issues?

No maintenence issues with mine so far. Tuned it when I bought it about 4 months ago and I haven't touched the tuning since. It gets practiced on for an hour a day monday-friday as my low drum.
