Should I trade my Headliners for Matadors?

Hello,

I found a used set of Matadors for about $360, with my Headliners as trade I can get them for $210. The Matadors look brand new, even the heads look like they haven't been played. It sounds like a great deal but I've had the Headliners for a while and they're a little hard to part with and it would cost me $210.

I've complained about ringing and overtones from the Headliners before and the Matadors do sound better but I haven't tried putting better heads on the Headliners yet either. I'm not sure what better heads would cost but I suppose around $100?

As I'm writing this it sounds obvious that I should get the Matadors but, when I was in the store ready to deal, I hesitated and decided to sleep on it.

I would welcome any thoughts you have.

Actually, the Headliners are the full size ones so they're the same size as the Matadors.

I think I will just go buy the Matadors and then I will have two sets of congas. I told my wife I'd get rid of some other stuff to make room for them and she reluctantly agreed.

I'm now the proud owner of a pair of LP Matadors. I really like them, they sound nice and are nice to play. They have a little different feel but I don't think it will take long to get used to it.

Now that I have four congas, all tuned to different pitches, I've been exploring some of the melodic possibilities. Just making stuff up but it's real fun.

I can't figure out how to attach pics but they're black and very shiny, you can see the wood grain through the black.

What sizes do Matadors come in? These look like about 11 and 11.5 measured from edge to edge.

exactly, like someone said before headliners are not full size drums, they are smaller, cheaper student drums.

you did well by acquiring the Matadors, they are the best value in congas. full size, good quality and sound

I guess you learn something every day:

What I assumed were congas and tumbas are actually quintos and congas.

Meinl makes a smaller set of Headliners so I assumed my larger set were full size.

Someday I'm going to have to get a tumba.

Congratulations on acquiring the Matadors, you won't be dissapointed. I agree with what the other guys have been saying, they are a great value. I think with Matador you get a really good drum and at an affordable price

chris you won't have any problem acquiring a tumba down the road.
you can always tune your drums to sound the way you want them to.
