More eye candy. I could kick my self in the butt for this. I have 5 Cuban SONOCS made of Cuban Caoba, this Caoba was so red that it was almost purple. These were one of the better sounding congas I ever had. In Cuba Tata played them, Los Muñequitos, Pancho Quinto, Yoruba Andabo...... I sold them because they kept on separating on me, that's the poor quality of the glue (is called cola in Cuba)they use in my country of birth. I should have send the all to Matthew for regluing, instead I sold them. The Caoba on these tubs was purple,very rich, very melodic, incredible sound, quite heavy to carry. Tremendas timbas. Wish I still had them!

what type of crown have you fitted to you luis conte ? they dont look stock to me .
I have a set pf meinl and have pondered on changing the ssr rims tp trad type .

I'm glad you asked...I bought a new set of replacement Lp Traditional rims for use with my Meinls. I did this, Because the stock rims(Even though they're traditional also) are extended diameter hoops, And I did not care for the look! I had to also use Lp Handpicked heads for the replacements rims.The rims on Meinl congas cannot be used with Lp heads ever (Son muy grandes).

Another +++ about using the Lp rims on the Meinl's is that they hug the shell alot closer. To me they look a helluva alot better, and produce the sound to match as well!

I have a Mule skin on the macho, And a medium weight Texas steer on the tumba for that combinacion perfecta.

the Islas get better by the day . Ive played them everyday for a few hour s the skins are breaking ever so slightly but Im liking what i hear so far.

I no longer own the LP's, I sold them to a friend. To be honest I was not quite happy with them but maybe that was an issue with me being that I was a novice at the time. They are more of a beginners conga, kinda like an oversize Aspire conga, same quality heads and hardware. I really did not know much about congas back then because if I did I would have saved up a little more and would have invested in the LP Classic's. As for the Ponchos, yes they are still under my possession, and they will be a permanent part of my collection, I am extremely happy with them.

King Conga.....can you tell me a little about the tuff e nuffs? Like the resonance, tones, pops,etc.
I once saw a guy on stage playing lead on a tuff e nuff quinto while two other guys were playing gua guanco and it sounded incredible. You have the same on yours?

The resonance on these drums is great and the tones are awesome. I know a couple of other people that own Remos and they feel the same way as I do about the sound quality of these drums. The super Tumba is "Wicked" sounding. The only draw back is that they are a little on the heavy side, I guess that that has to do with the material that they are made of, "acousticon", some proprietary stuff. FYI There are two type of shells on these drums, the old ones had issues because they had no reinforcement in the tuning lug area, after tuning this would sometimes cause a buckling condition on the shell. Remo was clearly aware of this problem and changed the shells, Remo re-designed their shells and beginning in 2006 they started MFG their congas with the new and improved re-enforced shell. If you were to look at the inside of an old shell and compared it to a new one you would notice the obvious difference. BTW I have had two sets of Remos, the first set was replaced with the new and re-desined congas in 2006, see first picture posted.
