Hi all

Well, to be honest, I was impressed by the sound.

It doesn't have the crisp sound of the Bauers, but it is way above average.

The sound is good and tones are warm. The quinto is easy to play and slaps are great. The skins are great quality, this helps a lot.

I played the four of them yestaerday and it was great. Nice melody !

And with 6 hooks (except for the quinto), they are easy to fine tune.

Hey B !!!

I'm happy for you, these drums looks nice !!! I haven't seen this brand before.

The hardware looks solid. Do the shell is a one ply, maybe two ?

Hi

I do not know how many plies there are.

They look just like LPs, with a narrower bottom.

I still haven't play them enough to tell you more about the sound.

But I will.

I can vouch for Raul's congas, not for Bauers. Raul congas don't split. I had a 1985 set that I sold recently and they were in great condition and they sound awesome.

My 2 Rauls might be my favorite drums that I own...at least in the top 3. The sound is different than any of my other drums....incredibly warm. If I could get my hands on the conga to match my 1985 quinto and tumba I would jump at the chance. I haven't owned them for too long but no cracks or splits. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. :D

The percussionist from Editus, a Costa Rican group that used to back up Ruben Blades, has a Raul set just like Jaqui's (Congabluedog). I played them years ago when they were here in So. Florida. I was really impressed with the way they sounded. Jaqui's quinto is one of the best sounding congas ever. They are quality and the hardware is second to none.

Bad Luck 2

I went to the seller to collect and pay the Raul conga set .
Somebody dubbelt the price for the conga .
She took the money and for me there was only the Raul tumbao left to buy.....(THE C&NT)

I was verry p&ssed, but bought the tumbao .
Two weeks later the kettle cracked .
I filled up the crack with cedar wood and p u gleu .
I used litle sigar lighting stiks, there cedar wood .
Thin and flat and filling the crack nicely.
Rather than forcing the crack to close .

There is no loss in sound quality .
It still sounds supberb.

Is there anybody here that has a cracked Bauwer/Raul conga he/she wants to part with ?

I actually have two Bauer congas that I might let go, but probably shipping costs would kill the deal. I have 11,75" and 12.5" pair which sounds very good although the 11,75" has a small crack at one of the lugs which I mended with pva glue and it has not gone further.

I warn you that Bauer uses a soft wood that is warm but not volume projecting, prone to denting. The cast metal lugs are cast, so they can break & chrome can peel off The tight clearances of the tuning hooks tuning nut ~ recessed into the lug plate causes binding and makes it hard to tune some times. I sold mine after 6 months ! Part replacement is very difficult since no one carries them !

I have not had problems with Bauer hardware, and this is the first time I hear about such. Wood, yes, but hardware is top notch.
You're right, the wood is some cedar variety, thus the warm sound and light weight, but less projection. However, the inner fiberglass layer both reinforces the drum and helps projection!

Soon i will have a Bauer conga set !
I just can't wait to put my hands on them .
They now have to com from Latvia .
Thanx to Korman ,whom i think made quit an effort to ship them !

And i won't fear the cracks .
If they crack again i fill them up with pu gleu and cedar wood strips .
The tubs will settle in the end .They just have to loose there tension .
And the conga's sound so nice , a couple of(filled up) cracks dous nothing to the sound !!
As it did nothing to my Raul tumbao !

I am so exited .And i just can't hide it .
I am about to ..............................
