Although I don't have a set of Mopercs, I have bought tons of skins from Michel over the past several years. Michel has always been an incredible merchant to do business with, and he recently notified me that he has just joined the ranks of "Grandfather!" Congratulations to him!

Muy buena gente Michel!

Suave!

Good one for Michel..

just as a point of trivia, if you check his
sponsors page on the website...

The Afro Cuban Allstars are one of his sponsors.

Not too bad, eh?

Tonio,I was lucky to find a tel number in this forum. There was a store here in Puerto Rico own by the late Ivan Caceres,he was selling top of the line Bongos like JCR,Timba,Moperc,El Piernas,Edison Pasteriso,Junior Tirado ect, ect. After he passed away his wife sold everything really cheap and I was lucky to buy the Moperc for half the price, nobody wanted the Moperc because of the yellow color but I knew exactly what I wanted. You can get 20% discount by buying directly from Michel. His Tubs will not dissapoint you, sound ,quality ,skins ect ect.

Thank you for the info Onile - yes I did notice that you get skins from Michel.

Michel is a grandfather - uh oh, I better get some before he passes the torch :D Congrats to Michel

caballoballo- you must have gotten a good deal on the moperc 's !!

I just just checked the import tariff for congas. And its free as long as Michel can issue a NFTA certificate. No duties !!
I also emailed him last night -with many questions, especially his philosphy on maple wood.

Will share when I get a reply.

Unfortunately, many of us are not in a position to afford the uppper-mid to higher level drums, but want to be active players. The forum focus on these $$$ tumbadoras is cool 'cause us poor guys get a chance to see pictures of the stuff we dream about and may never be able to buy. We play the Toca's, the SamAsh knock-offs, the Siam oak/ rubber wood tubs that we skin with mules to get a sound that leaves us and our listeners satisfied. Envy? Yeah. I think a lot of us are pretty green with it, especially when we see a gorgous set of VP's.

Tell me about it!
One of my 2 congas is a $75 craigslist special..
but hey, it's "vintage" LP fiberglass....

at least I've been able to get some high end bongos!
but I'm saving up for a sweet set soon!

Sometimes it's a matter of reorganizing priorities. Not saying that's the case with you guys, but for me, I bought my LP wood Gioavini's when we sold our second car. Since my wife and I are persuing a music career in earnest, we just simply started slashing everything else out of our lives. All that other stuff just chews up time and money. Our second car was just something that did not pay for itself, nor something that we HAVE to have, and was really just a liability on our wallets. So out the door it went, and in the door came some congas. I will hopefully be able to pick up some higher end conga's next year, but first I will be picking up a number of other drum types (going to be doing some teaching). I also wish to educate myself on higher-end conga choices before I make that plunge. I only want to do that once in the near future. It does take some planning to make expensive purchases!

Saludos Hermanos
hey, im poor just like the rest of us. :(
however i do have a regular job, so all the money that i make gigging on the side gets saved up to buy more music equipment, instructinal DVD's, and Lessons. all the money i make on gigs i use to buy more toys. after several years of saving my gig money i was ready to buy a set of mopercs.
some of muscians live off the music alone and dont have a steady flow of income all the time so, i can see how it would be difficult to buy toys when you have to buy food. and others make enough money as musicians that they can live good and also afford high end toys.
because i have a regular job, i cant go touring or anything like that which i would love to do.,
But, i will leave my regular job whenever i start making more money gigging than on my job.
and you aint making big money gigging unless your touring and playing in major venues with major artists.
i only make chump change gigging here locally, but i get
to keep my gig money for whatever i want to use it on.

god bless
