Mr Rumba- I purchased a set of these last November. They were even a better deal back then. I paid $235 for the 11" and 12" and then sprang for the 10" quinto at $99. So, $324 for all three. I'm pretty new to the game, so I don't have much first hand knowledge as what to compare them to. I know that I don't like them as much as my 11-3/4" Matador. My only beef with them so far is that I seem to be tightening the heads a lot. But, it's been pretty humid in NC lately. We discussed these a while back and I put up some pics. Here:
I got several Gon Bop new Mariano series congas for an incredible price from Amazon. They listed at $800-$900 but Amazon was selling them for like $250-280 depending upon size. However checking the normal sale prices from other outlets the real price was $420-460.
I think the manufactures list price is always high but the actual purchase price is indeed lower, but every once in a while Amazon has sales to lower their stock and clear their books for their quarterly taxes--or something. If you like the congas, this is a great time to get them. I was real happy with my purchase.
Looks like a variation on the cheap and cheerful Aspires. Your choice, but I would pass and look for a more substantial entry level such as LP Matadors or Meinl Luis Conte.
