I came across this ad for congas since I'm looking for fiberglass this time around. I have a feeling the sale wont last long. This a good deal?

Nice traditional rims. Are you able to see these in person before purchase? The listing is not accurate on the head sizes. The sizes are probably 11" and 11 3/4". The person probably measured the rim of the crown and not the playing surface (12" and 13" in the listing).

The price ($575) is a little high for the current US market because there were so many of these produced. Check Ebay for a baseline price comparison. I think a low price is $250-300 and average price is $350-450. This is dependent on the condition and if you are looking for this type of set. Also, this set probably would need a new set of skins as well which would be around $100 shipped.

Does this include shipping? The shipping will put the price in the range of a new / newer set because most retailers have free shipping. Shipping could be in the range of $80 - 150 for this set.

The LP Patato line does not have the bass response that most other congas have because of the narrow opening at the bottom. It all depends on what you are looking for. I would not purchase these with out being able to inspect them first. The person selling these might not know if they are or not in good shape (because of the incorrect head size measurement).

The real cost with no defects other than skins can be 575 (congas) + 150 (shipping) + 100 (skins + shipping) = $825. If there are more repairs then the pice goes up and up.

You make the call.

You might be right, it all depends on the state these nice drums are in.
I was a bit too fast in myenthusiastic advice.
Given the current exchange rate, it would be a sweet deal for Europeans, but then,
the shipping would be killing it.

this is all local. CDN dollars. Seller lives an hour away. Still worth it?

You should be able to negotiate down to $500 or less if you pick them up.

I have 3 (quinto, conga, tumba) for $450 I'm selling but they are for local pickup only.

Hey thanks for the info. I have a feeling that this guy doesn't really want to sell his congas because I tried when I first made this thread and he made it difficult to set-up a time and location. He still hasn't sold them since then and I'm looking to get some for a decent price. I'll try to talk him down and see what I can get. Thanks again.

He may be keeping a free ad up just in case he gets desperate and needs instant cash.
There are other great deals out there - keep looking and the right congas will come along.

leedy2 wrote:The Patato model conga List $700.- $900.00 and some change, In stores you can get $499-599 depending on size. Used drum all depends on condition and maintenance of the drum.

A perfect used drum $375-450 depending condition and maintenance of the drum
Deduct if needs skins $75.00
Scratches deduct depending on how bad $20 per every 1/4 of body ''These can be fixed''
Test Lugs if bad deduct $12.00 each
Look at Rim if bent deduct $80.00

All these figures that I have given are cost of replacement if need.

You Can find deals out there of people that buy drums and don't know how to play them or were planing to learn and sell stuff at a give away price.
