Conga Construction History Question

Hey Forum Members,

I was not tuned into the conga/percussion worlk until about 5 years ago so my historical perspective of conga construction is real limited.

At what point in time did the conga manufacturers move operations to asia and start using rubber wood and when did they start to use 2 ply construction techniques. Been looking at used congas just for background information and I do not know when the transition took place. I see meinl, toca and LP for sale but really do not know the construction.

Appreciate the walk through history from those who wish to walk through history.
