Moving wheels in Gator Conga Bags - Will I messed up?

Postby DJBakan » Sat Jan 15, 2011 3:49 pm

Hello to All,

I am looking for some advice from people that maybe tried this in the past or was going to do it but for some reason they stop.
Please if it doesn't work tell me before I do it ;-)

I am happy with my Gator Conga Bags but I think they tilt a little much, I see there is space to spread the wheel some more, I do not know why they do not do it like that. I see like a good 2 inches to the left and right which will make it 4 inches wider, that should be enough to stop them for tilting over.

The inside linen is easy to remove which is cool also, I took some pictures I see they use those pressure screws, I do want to brake the wood strap trying removing them. Well I want to hear from you, thank you in advance.

Hey
I have the same problem with the "KACES" conga bags with wheels
I agree with you on changing the place of the wheels
I'm ordering now the LP bags with wheels for my Palladium's I guess they are better

I agree the wheels are too close together on the Gator bags, making them unstable when you wheel them. Not all the Gator bags are constructed the same, mine have the wheels a bit farther apart than yours are, right out near the edge of the wood. They are still unstable but worse, the bag sags between the wheels, rubs the ground, and has worn big holes in the bag material where it rubs. This has happened on friends' bags as well. It looks ugly and reduces the life of the bags, as nothing else is wearing out yet.

So I think just moving the wheels as you described it is a bad idea for several reasons. Most important, wheels placed farther apart will probably cause the same rubbing problem I have had. Second, you will leave holes and possible damaged wood and bag material. Third, breaking rivets and patching holes seems like a bit of a pain. See what kind of wheels you can get that you could mount on the outside of the wheels that are there already, leaving the old wheels. If that doesn't work, put a third wheel in the middle to keep that part of the bag from rubbing and wearing a hole.

I haven't used anything like that but I would say that those wheel are just too small for the amount of weight that is being carried. I just use the straps on my Humes and Berg Tuxedo bags and will sometimes even carry two at a time. I'd think that you'd be better off getting regular bags and a two wheel dolly if you need to roll.

Thank you all for the advices.

I think I am going to put 2 extra wheels in the far right and left, that should give more support and should not roll over as much, hopefully I find a couple of caster wheels that match the size of the original ones. I will put pictures as soon as I get a little time to work of them.

I dont think these bags are the best out there Budget bags I have 3 one has lost a wheel and like you say are a little unstable.
If I had money to spend again Id go for the LPs or regular bags and a trolley. I have had mine for 3 years they are ok over short distances, but if you have to walk more than 100 yrds they tip .

I would leave them alone not do the mod things may be worse, I understand were your coming from but give i some thought
