Hey all---I have a pair of CA Series in Ebony finish and love them. Great projection and solid hardware. The rims are one of the best designs, a cross between comfort and traditional. I have a small collection and these are some of the best I have ever had. The skins are top notch and the finish is beautiful. I am happy to say, I am a proud owner. I would recommend CA Series to anyone looking for a great solid purchase.

I'll post some pics soon. the drums sound great, as the earlier poster stated very bright, just like the sol oak congas. I had an opportunity to buy a set of the mahogany sol drums, wish I had now that mahogany is REALLY hard to get ahold of now. Next to my skin on skins which are cherry the gon bops are very bright and loud! They're also a lot heavier!

Starting by saying I have no interest in Drum Workshop, Inc.

Interested in first impressions of the new Acuna Series from Gon Bops. The heads are water buffalo. I don't know if I mind them looking almost exactly like LP Gio's, but I was expecting something else. Shipping in Spring.

A number of other new products.... a Tumbao Pro series (Tumbao with contour crown rims and a lot of finishes, Tumbao is moved down to beginners 28"with only 10" and 11" in pairs), a practice conga/timbale...(conga with Remo head on one side, timbale on other), what they call "portable congas" which are hard to describe but a tub cut down to half height with a pipe coming out of the base, and a whole host of hand percussion, shakere, tempo block, bar chimes, and plenty of bells.

It looks like DW is starting to make a run for it. As others have attested, the CA series ist prima! I'd like to play one.

Best wishes,
Jim

I was looking at the Gon Bops website today and noticed that the Califonia Series Rally Stripe congas shown on page 30 of their PDF format catalog come with the Gon Bops logo AND what appears to be a Gon Bops name plate right above it. I've seen this name plate on the Tumbao Pro Custom Series but not the California Series. What's the deal? I know that the old Gon Bops would come with a simular name plate. Is this a retro touch by Gon Bops?

Does anyone know if this is a standard feature for '07?
All other California series I have seen do not come with this extra name plate.

Just curious.

Thanks!

I had a chance to check out some of the new Alex Acuna series drums the other day at a local drum store. They looked pretty good and sounded ok. They needed to be tuned up quite a bit and I was sorta in a hurry so I didn't even ask the guy for a wrench. The heads appeared to be pretty decent. The hardware appeared a little skimpy, but looked great, not sure how well they hold up. The shape of the drums was beautiful, nothing less should be expected of Gon Bops, however the color just doesn't do it for me, like the Gio's I just can't seem to like that ash look. I did think they looked better than the Gio's tho, better curl in the wood in my opinion.

I'm with you JimG....DW is a Corporation and will behave like one...PROFIT
I Hope that The GonBop division will be allowed to make fine drums and keep up the tradition. However that will not happen and a lowest common denominator mentality will take over. I for the money would rather shop a Timba(the true predisessor sp.) of Gon Bop, or the new Valje ...name aludes me. Volcano's or even isla.
However Those Gon Bops their making today are the "Cat Meow" and are VERY good drums. Hope it stays that way

The new "Valje's" would be Resolution Drums.

To be fair, it is well known that Akbar formerly of Sol and Valje is making the new Gon Bops California series.
