i have a have a jazz sextet band. singer, 2 guitars, bass, tenor sax, trap drummer and i play percussion, bell, shakers, blocks congas, bongo, dejembe, cajon, high-hat and a 20 inch ride..i have a great band, we do some samba, bossa nova and a lot of straight ahead stuff. however, a lot of clubs dont want to play a lot of money and another problem is sometimes there is not enough space to accomodate 7 to 8 musicians. so as the band leader i force to play without a sax and the trap drummer. the first time i play without the drummer was last month, so i just bought one conga, a fiber-glass patato conga or segundo with a mule head skin, a cajon,
some shaker around my ankle, a 20 inch ride with some blocks and a shekere... andthe band was cooking.... ... patato fiber-glass congas it was the way to go when only playing one drum , it really cuts through and can really be heard..... so for one drum go with the Patato model conga but change the head to mule skins.... awesome sound...i want some feed-back all your congeros... vaya El BARRIO, nyc. michaelangelo
