Batanga was created by pianist Bebo Valdés around 1950's. Changuito does go over this rhythm in his video "Evolution of the Tumbadoras". Check out early recordings of Bebo Valdés. One good internet source is audiogalaxy.com

Hope this helps!

When it is stated that Bebo Valdes created the Batanga rhythm, does that mean the particular arrangement of a composition that became the basis of a style, as opposed to the particular conga pattern? Do any of you use the pattern Changuito shows in the Evolution of the Tumbadora video? Does anyone know of any examples on any popular cds, or have you seen any examples on youtube. Thanks!

Just for the record, the one with started the creation of those multi percussion pattern,(combining Bata,Congas,Timbales,or drum/set was, Dr. Obdulio Morales,(Batamu)Gilberto Valdez did some work in that respect,(Batunga), and others name also were created BataCha,Batacumbele,BataRumba,Batacumba, and as Tamboricua exposed Batanga...I use that structure withing my percussion ensemble and for Clinics, but all I got is what I broght from Cuba when listening that structure over there.Dr. Zaragemca
