I am tempted to play a mozambique patter to this song... Tell me what you think...
Could someone check it out on line or if you have please share with me what you think this pattern is... I found this in both media player and real player on line at towerrecords.com. In the search field type Rumba Club - the album cover are hand playing congas. The song is titled: Espiritista

Hope this link works:

Hi Ivan,

Hope all is well! I would say that it sounds to me like an "Invento". On that track, I heard implied Makuta from Cuba, some Bomba Sicá from Puerto Rico. Those two rhythms although from different caribbean islands, they share the same rhythmic structure based on the "cinquillo". I also heard an Iyá doing some "floreos" based on the basic Chacha Elekefún batá pattern. Hope this helps!

Saludos,

Jorge Ginorio

Thanks for your thoughts Jorge and Johnny.

I just purchased this Rumba Club CD and those katz are great musicians! I love the way they blend Jazz w/ cuban/puerto rican folklore. Not sure if you've had a chance to check out this particular CD, but it's great. The song in question is my favorite (obviously). It caught my eye to see that Andy Gonzalez, brother of Gerry Gonzalez of the Fort Apache Band was producing and jamming on this album.

Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction...

Jorge/Johnny, Do both of you reside in Seattle? I breifly read through some forums and you two seem to be very knowledgable 'old schoolers'. As a young buck, if you are local I'd love to come check ya out if you have any upcoming gigs or link up w/ ya to give me some pointers in my playing - that is if you have the time.

I'm located here in snobby Seattle... Hope to hear from you soon.

Respectfully,
Ivan G
