by the way, JC. here comes the bride, am i right when i think that that is the mendelson bridemarch? ti ta-tata.... if so, i hear now that i already had tuned my congas so that it goes with that song:) BUT, still with an overtune. I havent bought the pork fat yet, but i feel as if the heads arent "dry" at all, the natural fat isnt gone yet... because i get some buttery layer (only a bit) on my hands after having played much on them.

Yes that's it...a 4th apart...though today there is experimentation with tuning. You get butter on your hands from the skin???? Did you kill the animal yourself and then mount it?...Never heard that in my life, maybe your hands sweat when you play, but a buttery skin???? um....."JC" Johnny Conga.... ???

3)- Hit the center of the head with a closed fist before every session. This will help restore a more uniform distribution of the skin "residual stresses" around the rim. Keep in mind that the "strech" & "moisture" are constantly changing due to the ever changing environmental conditions.

I've had lots of luck with this. It's kind of like a quick version of setting a head on a drumset tom tom. On a conga or bongo, it has alleviated the tin like ring for me on many occasions.
