Cuban Solid Shell Requinto, Before and After w/Video

Postby Mr.Rumba » Sun Apr 27, 2014 12:06 pm

Here is my beautiful Cuban requinto project. This is a Cuban solid shell guayacan wood one piece conga I got from my old friend Yagbe. It actually looks green in the light. You can see the requinto shell prior to restoration and refinishing by Ryan Manito Wendel of Manito Percussion. We put one of his mule skins on it as well. I am very happy with the job he did and the sound is amazing!

Very nice.
Was the top-opening made smaller during the refinishing process? Looking at the first pic, it seems like it.--If so, how was it done?
Didn't opt for the side straps (no holes), why?

Hello Ebongo,
The top hole was not made larger, it is just the camera angle. I went for the slightly more traditional hardware with the modena (curved crown) for purely aesthetic reasons. :)
How do you like the sound? I was surprised how warm it sounds for a requinto!

Sounds great, also, noticed the deep bass for a requinto, [but there is good bass for solid wood shell anyway]. Nice green color. Googled it and it is a very hard wood. Cool, a solid shell made in Cuba.
