There is an old 70"s movie called "Super fly" in which it shows a guy at a bar grooving with a nice pair of blue echo tones. You can watch this for a good while so you can have a good look at them.

"congaholics" , are you kidding, that's an understatement for all of us here in the forum, we are all sick with that disease  . I tend to call us "Conga junkies"
Cheers.

Here's a clip from 'Superfly' where a guy is playing maybe a pair of light blue Echo Tones and a third red one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYNhhq22_Ak

Wow!!!! thanks Jackson. I had no idea that this clip was out there. Well I stand corrected, I thought it was two blue echos but obviously not, blue and red, still a great combination for sure.
I really want a set, Im going to keep an eye out for some.

Great congas, very unique, great musicians and song! Really like that one from Curtis and movie is so old school seventees... I wonder if it was recorded with echo tones too? If it was cause of a rise of LP that echo tones went down, i don't know, ...but i don't like competition in music or at all... Many times some good things/business die, not because of better other one, just cause of marketing and other non fair BS...

The Late Great Master Henry Gibson on congas/bongos...he did the recordings with Curtis utilizing those same drums...he was a friend of mine as well and a real humble cat and unique playing style before it was fashionable to do...he copped this style from the Great Percy James congas/bongos from the group Quartet Tres Bien....who may have been the first to play 3 congas with bongos between his knees simultaneously...they came from St. Louis back in the 50's..here is Percy James...check out the size of his hands....

Johnny u tha man ! I'm now listening to all things Quartet Tres Bien, absolutely blinding stuff and I can totally hear the origins of Master Henry's style. I love discovering things like that, usually through here, often through Johnny, thanks man, more wonderful music opens up for my listening pleasure !

Unfortunately, I don't own an Eco Tone, but thanks to this board I now have a better appreciation for them. I just noticed in a photo of Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock that there are a pair on stage. As many times in 40+ years of seeing pics of Hendrix at Woodstock, I never even noticed congas on stage, let alone Eco Tones. Here's a couple of photos from this woodstock-wiki page: http://woodstock.wikia.com/wiki/Jimi_Hendrix

Here is the legendary Willie Bobo with an exceptionally nice Echo.
Notice the difference in style of the side mount.

Papa Dee died of a heart attack while on stage in 1988. He played Eco Tone as well as King Congas.

Definitely sad, and probably too soon, but not a bad way to go out if you gotta go.

Just got one if these on Craigslist. What's their value depending on the condition. I've seen some folk asking 400$ for 1.....
