LP Congas from mid-1970s

Postby vxla » Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:21 pm

there's a set of LP fiberglass congas from the "mid 1970s" available in my area. The drums look to be in decent condition and I can get them for a decent price. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the drums. I'd like a fiberglass set for hauling around and was wondering how much lighter those drums would be.

Thanks!

Don't know about LPs, but my 70's Slingerlands are pretty darn heavy. And I'd recommend removing the heads and checking for cracks around the rim before you buy.

The white tumba is a 1970's Palisades Park, NJ LP fiberglass. Single head change since then to rawhide select. Kickass tumba with scratches and dings that still puts it out today on all of my gigs. You won't find a better working tool.

Great drum! I actually would love to have this pair of drums since it's pre-Classics and has the old-style rim.

...and yes, that old LP fiberglass tumba is much lighter than even the fiberglass matadors I play with it.
