I just talked to Michel and ordered a set of the Salsa Club series in dark stain.
They should be here in late Jan-early Feb 2010. :)

Congratulations congamyk, wow now that's exciting, get ready for the sleepless nights :P
What is a set in your case? two, three, or four? What combination?
Why don't you try and see if Michel will send you some in-process pictues of your congas.

Thanks everyone, I will be receiving a conga & tumba and hope to get the quinto on order in the spring.
This is what my drums will look like.

I went with the salsa club model because of its unique hardware design.
Here are more photos of Michel's operations.

Mike, Originally I wanted the salsa clubs, but in the end went with the Cubanos. The salsa clubs remind me of the Meinl Floatunes, but with a slim design. Man those floatunes were heavy!! You will love the Moperc hardware.

When its time for shipping, be on top of it, his broker is slow, and can hold the transfer down to the US. Michel sends it to his broker, then the broker works up a export with UPS.

Did somebody say used Moperc?
Check it out:
http://www.moperc.com/congas_used/congas_used.php

I'm tempted ... but ... money's kinda tight right now ... it's a salsa club series too ... hmmm ... a requinto ... wish it was a tumba.

Cheers,
BMac

Disclaimer: I know nothing in particular about that drum. I just saw it on the Moperc website. Look under the congas tab for the "Used" selection. I watch it for a Salsa Club Series tumba ... not holding my breath though.

P.S. ... oh yeah ... all that point/counterpoint stuff aside regarding what hardware is THE BEST ... I don't know if there is such thing as a one THE BEST for everybody. But somebody posted a Ritmo picture with beautiful hardware. That traditional rim with the bracket that almost closes like a circle around the hooked part of the tuning bolt ... that's very artistic and elegant. Very nice. Never seen that before ... very nice indeed.

I got to play a set of Morpec tonoght . My friend got his a few weeks ago . Quinto Conga and Tumba salsa club in ASH . I have to say if its a bright sound your after these babies will cut it through the big band situation . Id say they weigh a little more than my Isla`s . the build quality is second to none . the hardware will see any of us guys out here . You wont be disapointed myke they are awesome Tumbadora`s . this is a vid f my friend playing his at a recent Salsa night here in the UK .

Congamyk tipped me off about this pair of Cubano for sale in the San Diego Region.

Took a drive up to have a look, they are marked inside as 2003 and have been played about a dozen times in church. Otherwise they has been kept in Gator bags and hence do not even have one blemish. Within a few minutes of playing I knew I could not let this opportunity go past even though I would have preferred a Conga/Tumba rather than this Quinto/Tumba combination.

I rushed to the bank paid the $1100 and closed the deal.

The skins are quite thick and not broken in, thus a bit heavy on the hand.

Question: Will a 6 year old skin be OK once broken in, in fact will it be alright after all these years of inactivity?

They weigh about the same as Classics but with the thicker skin do not project as much however the sound is wonderfully rich and earthy. Initially, I will use these for Rumba and Afro-Cuban folkloric dance class and the Classics for Rock and Salsa band.

Many thanks Myk
