Getting Cuban CDs in U.S.

Postby KidCuba » Sun May 19, 2013 3:02 am

Anybody know a source in the U.S. which carries Egrem and other Cuban produced CDs?

I have been looking for Yoruba Andabo and Clave y Guaguanco's newest CDS with no luck...

I just got Rumberos de Cuba's CD Mano a Mano from Descarga.com after about a 10 week wait.

Yoruba Andabo's Espirtu de la rumba is a killer recording but I haven't seen it for sale commercially in the US even though it seems to be on the Bis label.

Which Clave y Guaguanco CD are you looking for?

Descarga.com has a lot of EGREM and other Cuban CDs although prices are a bit high.

The OP's question was about getting Cuban CDs in the US. There is a big difference between physical hard copy CDs and MP3s and other file download formats. Each of us has our preferences and opinions about CDs vs file downloads and it would be best to start another thread if you want to get into that discussion.

Virtual music stores, which sell music file downloads and not physical CDs are a dime a dozen but that is not the topic of this thread. emusic.com seems not to even let you see what they sell without your becoming a "member". Timba.com, which has some great original interviews with Cuban musicians and excellent discussions and analyses of timba music, unfortunately does not seem to sell CDs. Also, using their search function on their website, I could not find anything they sell by Yoruba Andabo or Clave y Guaguanco.

Which other sites besides Descarga.com sell Cuban CDs?

Thank you for the responses, and I have tried all the websites mentioned.

I can live with CDs or Downloads, though I prefer CDs.

I am looking for Yoruba Andabo's Espiritu de la Rumba, and Clave y Guaguanco's Carraguao vs Pueblo Nuevo.

Los Munequitos also have a DVD out called Homenaje a Los Ancestros.

Abakua, does your copy of Espiritu de la Rumba have some clipping on most songs? The copy I got from Ronald and copies friends of mine have all have enough digital clipping to be annoying on most songs. Other than the copying, it is an incredible recording with continued development beyond the original Yoruba Andabo style.

I am visiting Miami and picked up the Yoruba Andabo, don't have a CD player with me - so I will have to wait to listen to it.

Amazon has a bunch of the Abbilona discs, although I think they're just printing them up on demand now. Still, a batá disc is a batá disc!

As a matter of interest, does anyone know who Abbilona is?

Is it a group or the singer? I have and greatly enjoy quite a lot of their (his) material but can't find any videos or pictures of the performers.
