Fixing Warped Rims

Postby bengon » Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:51 pm

Is there any way to fix a warped bongo rim? I think my new set of bongos were tuned unevenly by the previous owner and the macho rim is fairly out of wack. The drums sound good, but I'd like to nip it in the bud before it gets worse.

Only if it's a traditional rim. You can try and bend it back. Use a vice if you have one, or stand on it with a board on an even surface.

I have a strong vice, don't think it would help with this (Sorry BnB, I just couldn't resist)

Agree that a good large vise might work on trad rims - I have never had any luck with a CC rim. When I have had this problem, with good bongos, I replaced the rims.

Good question!
