Mongo's 'demo' record cost him 25 dollars..which was a a lot of money in 1952..he recorded it at Gabriel Ollers SMC(Spanish Music Center-studio)in Manhattan on the 2nd floor of a hotel, whose name escapes )one room 2 trak, straight to the "cutter/vinyl" , which was actually in the hallway outside his studio, which was also next to his little record store, where I bought Mongo's demo for one dollar. Chano Pozo also recorded there as well as Carlos Vidal, and Sabu Martinez(I have his demo albums as well) from 1961...mint condition...Mongo's 'demo' was released as CHANGO/BEMBE ...recording led Mongo to his first recording contract with TICO records where he recorded Drums and Chants 1961, and the rest is "his-story"...
