Guys,

I recently asked a percussionist who I respect and who is a Santero what is a "changuiri"? he gave me the whole, "I can't tell you because you're not in the religion" act.

To my general sense of word meanings, I thought it meant "beginner" or "initiate"....but I wanted to really understand the religious context.

It's just a "curiosity" question. Thanks guys.

I certainly never heard this word in a religious context, if at all. I am only Omoanyá and Iyawó-Obatala with little practical experience, but I have been building my theoretical knowledge progressively since 1981 and have my main connection with the religion through a house of Ifá in Cuba; so I really wonder what kind of super-secret ritual detail the word "changüiri" could refer to ...

Perhaps I ask my padrino if he knows the word, so I'll see how much secrecy there is to it.
