Cachao Passes On

A bit late....happened during forum downtime.... but nonetheless worth noting

Israel "Cachao" López, the Cuban bassist and composer, died at the age of 89 on March 22, 2008 in Coral Gables, Fla.

One of the most important Cuban musician, along with Arsenio Rodriguez of the 20th Century.

Why do they all have to go. It's been such a series lately...

For those who do not know well this giant man, listen to "master session volume 1 and volume 2"

He was the one who dusted danzon to bring it to another level.

I was sad to hear that Cachao had passed away. The local Latin and Latin Jazz radio show did a dedication to Cachao and his body of work is impressive. We have to enjoy these giants of Latin music while we have them because we are losing that entire generation of great musicians.
