Super, Thomas! Thanks for posting this.

Here is a clip of a trio I work with, with 2 guys also from the small village I live in, at a little coffee house here.. The singer/guitarist, Coco (Immanuel Ben Or) was born and raised in Chile. Enjoy:

And here is another one of us ("Bandido") doing, "Paloma", a slow, classic Latin love song. The tune after it is more in a modern groove, one of Coco's, and cuts loose at about 10 minutes. I play cowbell, djembe, cajon and a home made "quinto" from PVC pipe... had to sell my real congas a few years back, but hope to get some again soon! :)

And this one for laughs but I like it. The day before the other clips, same place, with Sergio, one of the village elders, also born in Chile. Little mix of Espanol and Hebrew:

The musicianss have recorded this old number as some kind of a post-modernized Changüí, creating remarkable space and transparency by an uncompromising reference to contratiempo. No tradition sacrificed, in my opinion. The guys know their stuff.

One of the reasons all you need is one drummer with Changui!
When it's Marvin on Bongo!

Hey Yoni ...love your stuff as always.

I'd love to see the PVC quinto in better light though.

When I was a poor student living on rice and mac & cheese I thought about making a 'conga' from PVC. This was the days before ebay & kijiji so all you could get in my part of the world was new stuff from pearl or LP - way out of my price range.

In retrospect a PVC drum would be a distant cousin to those remo synthetic ones I guess.

All the best

So glad you enjoyed - thank you!!!

CongaTick, I wish more of my evenings were like this. :)

Darrell, I so much prefer wood of course, but must make do with this PVC quinto as it's the only "conga" I have at the moment.

One morning a few years ago I opened my apartment door and there it was, mysteriously sitting in front of it! An anonymous donation. Amazing. I have no idea who made it.

Maybe it can be seen in moments a bit better in this clip, which I tried to have lightened with the youtube edit... same night, our 3rd time playing out together, and my solo in this one frankly sucks. Ok, no more excuses. Things do heat up a bit after it. Enjoy:

Nice poppy sounding little drum. That is exactly what was in my tiny mind oh so many years ago!

I think I'll try and make one ... I wonder what the effect of having a straight tube without taper or sexy conga shape is overall ...guess I'll find out

great story behind it BTW

Some of you may know of Frisner's recent passing. A great source of Haitian music for much of the world. Djouba,, my favorite of the Haitian repertoire, done by Augustine himself.
RIP Frisner.

Enjoy making your PVC drum, Burke!

Here's a better view of mine for you. Looks like the hardware was well made.

Kind of a long shot, but did anyone happen to have downloaded that video posted a while back with Marlon Brando and jack Constanzo playing congas at Marlon's house during an interview? Sadly the video has been "removed by user" on Youtube. :(

Not traditional but nice variation of Samba groove. It keeps that street samba feel with the way it flows like a wave.
