Hi Drum brothers,

There have been quite some replies to Anga's Passing and I have not said my piece yet. I just got to see a DVD of Gernan, an Argentian Timbalero friend of mine and in February 2006 he recorded a workshop of Anga in Perth Australia while I was drumming away in West Africa. I got watery eyes seeing this brilliant man/conguero play and with so much kindness towards all the people there that you wonder why people like him go first....

I know why we all miss him!

Blessings to you Anga!

Still hard to believe Anga left us.
I got to know him in Belgium a few years ago together with Omar Sosa. We met a few more times in Belgium, Brussels. His last concert in Belgium was, of course, great.

Having just begun listening to his music this year, the year after his passing, I am so sorry I have missed the chance to see this great musician perform live.

I am thankful he left behind so many wonderful recordings, and have learned the lesson to see as many musicians perform while I can, as so many of the best and brightest leave so early.

Couldn´t have said it better, bongosnotbombs!
I had the chance to see him play live once, and the brilliance of his playing and his radiance are unforgettable.

I think he has given so much to the percussion world beyond his superb CD recordings - ideas, innovative rhythms and love for music.

We won´t ever forget him.
Peace & drum

I was missing Anga this morning.
It's been over a year now since his passing...and a good enough length of time has passed
where I can look at his work anew.

He was one of the best ever congueros I ever saw.
Miguel "ANGA" Diaz made it out of Cuba, but was already
a young lion before he left . I saw him when he toured
in the USA for a while with Jazz Trumpeter Roy Hargrove.
I met him after the show introduced by my old Cuban Teacher,
the late Luis Andino. Changuito was there also. It was at a free
concert in Central Park in July 1997, a day I'll never forget.
I was registered to have gone to his workshop in Banff Canada,
but had to cancel due to a family member's illness.

Later Anga lived in France, and then Spain.
He died suddenly last year at the age of 45,
as many of you know.

this is a very sad event, i feel grief for Anga's passing, at first i did not believe what i read on different social networks but then no that i can pretty much confirm it i cannot believe for myself! this is all so unexpected to me, i am a really big fan and i wished i had seen Anga but i never got a chance to. i just do pray that Anga is in a better place i know happiness awaits in eternal life.
