I was just shopping in Tower Records (Osaka) again and discovered a couple of gems that I think would be really hard if not impossible to find in North America right now:

Mongo Santamaria's "Afro Roots" and "Mongo 70". I'm just ripping Afro Roots onto my computer now. I know I will like this one because I've heard about half the songs on it over the years and I almost choked when I saw it along with Afro 70. Never heard that one yet but it will be getting played real soon! Unfortunately all the liner notes are all in Japanese so I will have to get my wife to translate for me!

I could spend a lot of dough in this store!

"Afro Roots" 4 out of 5 stars... awesome recording!
"Mongo 70".... ummm maybe it's an "aquired taste"! but so far, not so great.

This Jesus Diaz diaz CD has been in my car for weeks now...

I picked it up seven years after the fact, but hey, it is never too late to enjoy some solid music.
