Having seen number of videos of street rumbas played by Puerto Ricans, is it fair to say that their style of playing is very different from the Cuban style. A few things that stand out in my mind are that the quinto soloing is very fast, with not much space between phrasing, the tempo itself is usually always very fast, and timbales are many times used. Not to be critical in a negative sense, I much like the Cuban styles better. Am I totally off base here, and my observations too overly generalised?

I personally love to see the old footage of rumberos from Cuba and the like, amazingly it doesn't sound half bad considering using just a camcorder or what ever. But most of em are from traditional jams- is it safe to say real?
On the other hand, the stuff (links) posted here of PR rumba are of current crop with modern style so to speak, which is far from a traditional sense, but has the "rythmn" still available. They sound like ka ka, and is IMO more for showing off or just to get a capture of whats out there. Which is cool too.
