What is your favorite Papines cds?
I have a cassette tape of Los Papines, thats really getting bad, so looking to purchase in CD's. The material is a best of kind of deal that was reproduced from old LP's, so I have no clue as to what album, or the titles are.

Any recomendations? Reissue is OK. Prefferablly the good stuff without accompanied "rhythm section" cameos.

I have about 8 Papines albums from the 60's...rare stuff today....they are all my favorites....including there first, with Guaguanco Mantancero on it also....before they became "Los Munequitos de Matanzas"....but I have one from 1967 that I like in particular because of the... orchestrations on it with them ..."JC" Johnny Conga...

J.C.,
I'm with you on GUAGUANCO by Conjunto Guaguanco Matancero, Papin Y Sus Rumberos. This is vintage pre-Muñequitos at their very best. Tonio, I would definitely get this one on CD. The sound quality is not that great but IMO today's rumba can't compare to this. If I'm not mistaken I think this album was produced in the 50's although my copy (Antilla Records) has no date on it and was probably the group's first recording.

JC, afrocubarico, thanks for the info, I didn't know Papines & Guaguanco Matancero had one together.

Now to see if I can find one available. All good ones are the older, without all the "americanized" songs.
I actually got to see Los Papines locally a few years ago,
outstanding in person at a small venue !!
