JAZZ IN THE DOMAIN: NOITE BRASIL

From the smooth rhythms of bossa nova to the irresistible beats of the samba drum, Brazilian music has created a rich legacy that has touched almost every form of composition. The past few years have seen a resurgence of interest in Brazilian music and this year's Jazz in the Domain celebrates its varied and multi-layered repertoire.

Noite Brasil has been conceived and arranged by renowned composer, arranger and guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves, one of the founders of the bossa nova movement.

Famed jazz critic Leonard Feather wrote of Castro-Neves, "The crystalline beauty of his arrangements is matched by the rare delicacy with which they are interpreted. Castro-Neves is incapable of creating a dull moment, but that is an understatement: He is only capable of generating rhythmic, harmonic and melodic joy."

The percussion section will be led by Airto Moreira, a major figure in jazz for the past 30 years.

Over two and a half hours, both Oscar and Airto will take 100,000 Sydneysiders on a journey from Brazilian jazz to popular beats. Make sure you arrive early for what promises to be an unforgettable night at the Domain.

Well playing samba/jazz is a great thrill for a jazz player,I still remember one of the Paquito D' Rivera shows,(in Houston),where he brought a brazilian drummer and in one of the jam, everybody get out of the stage and the drummer finished the jam and the musical/section with an smoking solo.Dr. Zaragemca
