I have just finished (sort of) writing a solo piece for marimba. What I want is a program to type it up on. However, my quandary is this - if I invest in a decent program and it turns out the piece is crap, I probably won't write anything more and have wasted my money. What I'm looking for is a reasonable, yet cheap program. It has to be able to handle quintuplets, grace notes (embellishments), 7/8 time.

Any suggestions??

check out http://www.codamusic.com

they offer a free music notation program that might work for you, as well as some inexpensive upgrades. I use the free program (Finale). It has its shortcomings, but it's free!

Rahalak,

Thanks for the tip. As it happens I managed to obtain a (fairly old) version of Encore which is working well.

Cheers,
Fish

Hi, I use Musedit. Very simple, not expensive, many symbols for hand drums notation.
