I'm looking for a set of cajons for rumba. What are the best production and, possibly, independent makers out there? Does anyone swear by any particular brands or models?

Thanks.

Hi vxla,

in the USA I would tryout the cajones of Steve Head from Georgia who started his workshop 2008 as Kopf Percussion.

I have bought the tumba from kopf before my wood working days, and I didnt like it...the bass note is not deep or powerful enough, even though it is well-made.

I think the problem is that they have a 13" width... I make my tumba cajons 16" wide. The other rumberos didnt like the Kopf tumba either for the same reasons, plus it costs too much at $169.

This is why i started making my own tumba cajons. . .

tumbas are $150 and quinto is $50 (glued)...

If you want a good one, let me know.
