Drum Builders

Postby stevesdrums » Sat Jan 31, 2009 3:07 pm

I've been playing and drums for many years and always dreamed of building my own drums. They turned out better than I anticipated and I plan to build more to play and sell. I built them from 18 staves of Poplar hardwood then stained them and protected them with several coats of polyurethane. All are 28 inches high. That seems to be the perfect height for seated playing. My Goatskin drums sound like a Djembe and the Cowhide drums sound exactly like Congas. I'd like to connect with other drum builders to share tips and techniques and good sources of supplies. You can see and hear my drums at

I just finished a Djembe (4/20/2009) and I am am very pleased with the result. I'm heading out to Golden Gate Park drum circle to try it out his week.
