CATA ANYONE?

Postby KING CONGA » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:42 pm

Does anybody know where I might be able to find a CATA? I know that Pearl makes one but I am looking for something that looks and sounds more authentic. How about some videos of someone playing the CATA? I have seen some by Isla Percussions but I’m looking for others. I would like to see some videos because I have an interest in learning different patterns. Any information will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

P.S. If you have a picture of a CATA, could you please post it?, thanks.

if you like. Of 4" bamboo. And sealed with bamboo sealer.

Check this thread.

These are the cata/guagua I made from 3" and 4" bamboo.
The holes are drilled into them with a 1/2" drill bit.

These sections I picked from the pole because they did not have cracks.

I'm willing to sell these to forum members for FUN
If it becomes UN-FUN...and I'm referring to some of the posts lately, I'll stop.

These are just sections of bamboo I picked out for making cata, I cut them with a bamboo
saw and drilled some holes in them. I am going to coat them with this oil I got to try and help
them last longer.

These aren't $750 dollar congas, catch my drift? I'm not even sure what to charge for them, $20 plus shipping? Does that sound right? How much is a cata/guagua worth anyways?

the sizes are roughly the size of the bamboo section.
I suppose these can be played sitting down or standing if
you have a stand.
So I guess PM me and we can work out details.

Does anybody have any ideas as far as a holder for a Cata? Ive seen the type that hold the LP Guiro, I think that that type might work for mine. although Im hesitant to try it because I would hate to permanently damage my instrument. Any suggestions?

I think you could zip tie the cata onto a board or piece of pvc pipe and
then attach it to a stand.
I know those bongo stands have clamps and staps to use for the centerpiece on a set of bongos,
couldn't a 2x4 or something fit there somehow, with the cata zip tied to it?
Might look a little funky. I prefer playing them between my knees, it makes one less
thing to carry around, but a lot of people use stands too.
