I just finished this one off today for a friend of mine.
This gourd has the most incredible bass tone I have ever heard. Seriously deep and rich tone. The beads are wood.

I'm really happy with the way this one turned out. Marco yours are next!

I don't know any professional experienced musicians that drop their instruments, or allow their instruments into the hands of an inexperienced or drunk people.

I've spent a lot of time studying these shekeres. Always a pleasure to see these photos'
I had these instrument in mind when I made that one with white and wood beads. Of course
these instruments have some very advanced construction techniques, I have yet to learn,
but I've learned a lot from these photos.

rhetorical question...get it?

who carved the eye and does that affect the integrity of the gourd when playing bass notes

I'd venture to say the eye is carved (or etched) onto a thin brass sheet glued to gourd surface, and edges held in place by a nicely formed donut of plummer's epoxy putty. So it is not carved into gourd surface or affect gourd integrity.

The brass metal work adds another dimension to these shekeres......Regal !

I also like the two tone ribbons inserted mid-way down the weave. They really add color and a dynamic look when being played, (as seen in photos) without getting in the way like a woven tail can sometimes do.

Excellent!
