I continued this from another forum.

Bauer, known for their high-quality timbals, has been marketing a similar drum they call a tumbala. It is basically a strengthened timbal shell with stronger tuning hardware and a conga head.

I just took delivery of one. I haven't played it enough to review the sound, but I have some photos.

11 3/4" head and 70cm (27.5") tall, my favorite timbal size.

How is the tumbala coming along? I would love to hear a review on it if you get the chance. I am going to have to replace my timbal at some point and if I am placing an order anyway I might order a tumbala as well.

Interesting drum. Other than espiritodrums.com, do you know of another source for brazilian drums? It's probably getting more difficult to locate Brazilian drums, especially with the current exchange rates.. perhaps LP's Rio samba line will roll out a nice Timbal.
