I have already enjoyed listening to Ahmet Misirli (very cool modern grooves) and Hossam Ramzy as well (at least some sound clips on the Internet.

I'm interested on buying a darbuka. What would you suggest as the most appropiate drum (ceramic, aluminium, cooper, etc)and head choice for recording?

hey

for recording i think the best is ceramic or clay with natural head
as for live music there is the egyptien one which is neither aluminium nor copper its from something called Font
and the turkish one is made from aluminium or copper
aluminium gives higher pitches while copper gives more volume and harmony

its up to you to choose and to see whats available
