One of several new boxes that are going down to a Mission in Mexico. This one was out of architectural plywood that had a grain pattern that I didn’t want to fully paint over. I masked off a pattern…painted over the rest..Ta Dah…I think it turned out kinda cool. Just wanted to share a quick way to dress up a cajon.

Como estas, pablo? :)

Nice work! Do you organize these shipments on your own or as part of a non-profit group?

Either way ... keep spreadin' the music love! :D

Peace,

It's loosely organized through a local members of a church. A cat here has some Puruvian relatives. Thus when a group of musicians came down from Mexico, they were introduced to the cajon. Since we have been building these drums on the cheap to give to people who can't afford otherwise, this group from Mexico was in line for the latest 'batch' +pablo+

Dear Pablo.
That cajon looks sooooo NICE! Great work! Now since my own cajon floated away with Katrina could you make me one? I DO want to PAY for it, however. Such great crftsmanship should be rewarded. Please e-mail me.

Saludos,

Berimbau, sorry so long in replying. "Your" cajon is in the queue. It may take awhile though...the next build is yet to be planned.

No cost, I'z only charge you shipping.

P.S. being in Memphis, have you run across a percussionist by the name of Eric Darken? Awesome master of textures and coloring...

Hey Pablo!
Sorry it's taken me this long to get back to you. No, I don't think I've met Eric.

All My Best,

Anyone interested in making their own Cajon, or just looking at some exotic cajons, check out this website. I always thought the proportions was important, but these are certainly beautiful shapes.
The site is spanish, but the english translation looks like it has been 'Babeled' IYKWIM, but you can work it out easily enough.
