Hello, my respects to all and thank you for taking the time to read this thread.

I wish to purchase a 14" timbal and was wondering which brand is the best. I would also like to know what is the best wood for timbals? I am after a top of the range instrument.

Thank you.

I have a Bauer 14"x90cm timbal which is great. I also played with Contemporanea 14" timbal but I prefer Bauer.

I just got my 14"x35" Raul timbau through ebay (a very good deal!). Raul brand has now been bought by Bauer - in my opinion these are the best.
I also think that kind of wood doesn't matter much being few and thin plies. Any of the wood kinds regualrly used to make drumset will do.

Hello again everyone.

And thanks again for helping out.

I have decided to order the Bauer timbal, 14" by 30". When I get home from this tour I will order it right away.

My respects. T.

I have the same Bauer 14"x90cm timbal that Juzzi was mentioning and it sounds great. I have had it for a few years now and it has really held up well. Some of my fellow players their drums have cracked and the rims are bent but my Bauer does not have any of these problems. When I have the option I go with Bauer, I am really impressed with their instruments. It seems like Contemporanea is easier to get here in the US but I am glad I spent the extra time to track down a Bauer.

Hey, at a show this weekend I had to play my friends timbal it is a Contemporanea and I was pretty impressed with the sound. 14" head 90cm tall same as my Bauer. I still prefer Bauer I think overall they are better quality but the Contemporanea was not bad
