Somewhere-- though I can't find it-- there was a brief thread on cajon-making. Any help in pointing me to that would be great. Otherwise would appreciate site referral or info on specs for cajon building. Seems to be great variation in design. Would be VERY interested in hearing from any forummers who've actually built them and are pleased with the results.

Upright, since am looking at it as possible inclusion within my 4 drum conga/djembe sitdown setup. But would be interested in details on either.

Abakua,

Thanks for the dg site. Been there, and there are some great clues and tips for what I have in mind. Niallgregory, I look forward to your stuff.

Thank you both for taking the time to respond. Really appreciate it.

niall,

Really appreciate you taking the time to post dimensions, but I must be pretty dim-witted, cause I can't figure them. What do they specifically refer to? Apologies for not understanding and respect to you for you willingness to help.

Here's one made many years ago.
Front and rear is thin plywood, screwed on to the rest of the shell.

Notice at the top, there is no screw, its been removed it in order for crispier slaps and more vibration.
Body has big bass tones.

This cajon is frequently used for many Andean genres, beautiful in Festejo grooves, ideal in Flamenco situations and gives Guaguanco an aggressive feel in Rumba con Tambores y Cajon. We use this Cajon in an application similar and shared with the Quinto.

Sounds fantastic.

Rear 3/4 shot, here you can see the air hole in the back.
rear is stapled on using special staples for wooden applications. This form of fastening was better than screws for the rear as it produced a far nicer sound.

Here you can see what I was reffering to at the top of the stricking surface, single centre screw removed to allow more vibration, louder and easier big sounding slaps.

As usual, Abakua, you are a veritable font of knowledge and a treasured resource to all of us forummer sideliners. Thanks for going to the trouble of posting GREAT pix. They've got me jazzed to go. Couple questions before I rush off to Home Depot: The internal framing? Is there any? Approximate thicknesses of top/sides/bottom,etc.?
