This is what you do. You buy the congas for your wife
and then tell your wife you have a surprise for her and
present her with the drums because you want to teach her
how to play on her own set and if she does not like them
and you can't return them you got no choice but to make
a sacrifice and keep them for yourself. What you think?

This is an excellent idea, except for the fact that I was lucky (or unlucky) enough to marry (for the 3rd time) a woman who is far smarter, than I in so so many ways. She is a master of manipulation and has seen easily through the ploy you suggest in the past without so much as an eye blink of effort. The best approach is to be up front, however It is not money which is the issue, it is space. Currently 3 congas, bongos, large djembe, small djembe, darbuka, mic stands, mixer, various scrapers and shakers from guiro to cow bell crowd our colonial. Also, have to say, I am not a collector for the sake of collection. My usual setup includes them all. Soooooo...'fraid I'll have to leave that sweet deal to a deserving soul. But many thanks for the advice.
