The present day economy is really in bad shape. I will say a reasonable price for the complete package would be $3500. That's more or less what 4 plus bongos Matt Smith or SOS will go for.
My 2 cents.

I agree with Omele, for 8 or 9 G's I could get a set of Matthew Smith and a set of SOS drums with bongos and get change. The niche for classic congas are small, only a small number of us really appreciate vintage drums but I have seen the population of us grow because of Forums and web sites like this. Good Luck

To be honest the highest I've seen a set of Valjes go for is about 2 g's. Beautiful drums.

Another case of economics gone wrong. What they are worth doesn't synch with what you can sell them for. You seem to go through this every year. KEEP THEM!!

Wow - ya - I'm pretty much out of touch with the American economy.....I think Canada is not too far behind from the looks of it.

Thanks fellow Forum members for you replys. I will keep the drums. They are too beautiful and there is too much sentimental attachment for me to even think about selling them for 2 or 3 thousand. I do appreciate that you can't put a price on sentimental attachment - I have no trouble with agreeing with that. I'm not desperate to sell the drum by any means. Keeping them seems like very good advise.

Thanks,

Cheers,
Gary

Considering their condition, I would not mind paying as much as $4,000.00 for this set, That super Tumba alone, which are very rarely seen, can fetch in the neighborhood of arround $1,500
I would also say, "Keep them", they are are no doubt a great set to own.

Valje are very nice drums, but not in the same league as a Matt Smith or a SOS. I recently sold on Ebay an 11.5 conga and a 12.5 tumba with a matching set of bongos (all Tom Flores Sunset Blvd.) for $1599 and they were in excellent condition. I would price them each at around $700 to $750 and the bongos for $350 to $400 and that's top dollar. Matt is charging around $800, last time I checked, per drum, so you should use him as a yardstick. Matt makes the best conga in present day. My 2 cents. If you feel sentimental attachment to them I' ll keep them. For $9000, with the resources I have, I could buy 3 Matt's, 3 Jays, 3Juniors and go to an "All inclusive" Caribbean get away with the wife for a week.
Keep the set, they are beautiful and high vintage quality.

Like everything else they are only worth what the market is willing to pay for them.

I remember selling a $10K diamond ring for $4K, that was the best the market was willing to pay. I does not mean the buyers were cheap or have no appreciation for ones perceived value.

I you don't like the market price and you can afford to hold on to them then that's the obvious choice.

This is a great deal for these drums for what you're getting so if anyone here wants them or knows anyone that may be interested it's a good time to buy these beauties.

I can send tons of photos and detailed descriptions of all the drums and associated hardware = cases and ring stands.
