Guayaba Tree Sticks

Postby RetroVintageDrummer » Mon Jan 05, 2015 2:50 am

Does anyone know where I can get some Guayaba dowels or even Guayaba wood? I want to make some custom timbal sticks.

Thanks in advance,

Guava is a tropical fruit/plant/tree and I do not think that is really considered
as timber wood. I have read that in Cuba they used guava to make timbales
sticks, perhaps more out of necessity than anything. Unless you travel like to
South-Florida, Caribbean, South and Central America chances are you are not
going to find guava wood. I am from Puerto Rico where we have guava trees
left and right and never seen guava lumber/timber/wood commercially available.
I remember, once, I made a giant top out of guava wood but I had to cut down
the tree myself so I figure that perhaps in Cuba they did the same thing if they
wanted "baquetas" out of guava. I hope this helps.
