Posted: Fri May 20, 2011 10:43 pmIts called evolution , progress etc , nothing stays the same . Why would modern day timbaleros want to play the same way as 30 / 40 years ago ? Modern grooves require a different way of playing . Adding in a snare , bass drum or even a floor tom with multiple bells is a modern approach to the instrument . I personally love Orestes Vilato who has an old school sound but i also love to listen to Ralph Irizarry rippin it up .Each to his own and all that !

I'm surprised that you write this considering other things you've written on this forum. First off they are only in 14/15 and their steel. I've seen read that a more traditional sound comes from 13/14 as well as brass. The fact that many tune 14/15 to high to get the sound they seek, wold seem to apply to these timbales as well. What makes they shells better than others (brass and bronze). I why would a steel set be the best on the market?
Just trying to learn why?

Posted: Tue May 24, 2011 2:43 amSo I guess that your better of buying modern steel timbales than the cheap brass ones that companies are pumping out? It seems horrible that so many companies that make instruments send production overseas and don't put the quality that needs to be put into the instrument, and charge so much.

Posted: Wed May 25, 2011 1:02 ammy favourite timbalero of all time is william "bobo" correa,next is tito puente.,one good timbalero of today i like a lot is jose claussell,he plays with eddie palmieri la perfecta 2.,also another good timbalero is ramon banda,he played with poncho sanchez for many years,now has his own band called banda brothers,but he mostly play drum kit/timbales today.
