I am getting into bongo drums and have found somewhere in Oz that sells them. I have looked arround their site and narrowed my search down to 2 different sets, but I cant decide which one. Which set would you rather get out of these 2:

Hi!

Living in Germany, I know the Schalloch-products, and I must say they are rather the mid-to-bottom line... Perhaps comparable to Cosmic Percussion. OK, if you´re after small head sizes at a moderate price level (but they are not THAT cheap either, as a fact) those could be your option.

I don´t know the Powerbeat drums, but they look more sturdy, with traditional rims and stuff. They may be heavy in weight (a minus), but also heavy in tone (might be a plus), whereas the Schalloch have got a rather tinny sound...

Difficult to decide between THESE two, perhaps you should give other brands a try and/or playy on them before you buy them!!

Well i am just getting started, so can you give some suggestions on what sizes to start with, what are good brands etc etc. I would appreciate it if you could give ANY bongo drum sites that could help a beginner.

Well, size does not matter that much (I mean size of drumheads of course...

Modern industrial Bongos come with basically two sizes.
Well, I love my Afro Elite Bongos. (I think this firm has been taken over by Pearl) . Problem is the sheer amount of different brands and models.
Other good brands are of course LP , although always on a high price level... But check out ebay for special prices...

Being not a bongo expert myself, I can only say look for a solid construction and good heads (not too thin not thick).

Perhaps other CONGAPLACANITES can help?!?

Jeroth Welcome to the forum,

Since you are locate in Germany check http//www.bongolei.de. While you there look for the Sonor Global Bongó. That one should be a better selection than the ones you have check already although schallog has better ones than the ones you checked. Look at schallog web page. Good luck.

Abure Neftali is right, if you're looking for a reputable instrument, LP Matadors would be a safe buy! Looking at the price, you can't go wrong.

I have had a set of LP Generation II Bongos for about 3 yrs and I have found them to be great and I don't see myself changing for somthing else
They have a great Pro sound.
You should give Ebay a look you maybe able to find some Pro model Bongos for a price you are willing to pay.

Get the best you can afford
