Hi Everyone,
i am just new here and i enjoy your site. Ihave read somethings about Bongos and see many pretty instruments. I am a new player, and I have seen these Bongos in Ebay, and will like to know what kind they are, or if I should buy. I looked in Internet, but can not get information on company for "Oakland Bongos".
Thanks for any answers!
Greetings,

I don't know anything about Oakland drums, but they look like they are good. They kinda look like old LP drums.

Hi Thanks for your responses! I don't have much knowledge with Bongos, but I like the wood on this one and it is not broken somewhere. but I must let some person put a new skin on it for me when I buy it. Do you have a idea what would be too high for price to pay for it with such condition?
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum polly85.
They definitely look like LP's, the hardware looks nice, clean and sturdy, also I can tell you that that is ZEBRA, LP are the only ones that I know of that produced ZEBRA wood bongos and that was limited, in other words ZEBRA wood bongos are very rare.
Personally, I would jump on the opportunity to own this set.
check this link out for more information on ZEBRAS.

K.C.,
I also thought it was a zebra set, but I am not so sure,
as the bottom rings are not stamped, the hooks neither
and the wood could also be some other species.
In the worst case it a Frankenbongo - or a bitzer: bits of
this, bits of that...
But as I said, I am not 100% sure. The wood grain does show
slight differences to zebra wood though.

I think that there are more than one kind of zebra wood.
Also the way the wood is sawn makes a difference in the
appeareance. Flat or quater sawn for instance. The bongo in
this thread appears to be quarter sawn where most fo the LP
Zebras I have seen appeared to be flat sawn. I hope this helps.

It's not an LP and doesn't look like zebra to me either. The wood looks similar to a Cuban wood bongo that Dario had and, I believe, sold to a forum member. But, it may not be that wood at all. The hardware and design look like an LP copy. But, with the right skins it should be a good bongo. My guess tho is that it isn't worth that much. Probably in the Matador range.

Hi again,
thanks for the responses. I think it is very helping in my choice. I think I will not buy these Bongos, not sure, because they need much work maybe to do for them for me to play them.

Possibly, it is better to buy some pair that has not so nice wood, but are ready for playing when I buy them. Thanks again!

The price is still very low - if you can get them for 20 or 30 Euro it is still a good deal. Any music shop or drum shop can put a new head on for you.

Hi Psych1,
yes it is at a low price. But, when I buy these maybe pay total, with new skin, maybe I could get LP Matador or good Meinle Bongos, what do you think? Are these Bongos good enough for investment of maybe 40-50euros? Also, i have seen this pair of Pro percussion Bongo. They look much like the other one.

They seem to be stuck at a euro [and its only a day 1/2 left]. Maybe wait and see if you can snipe them for a song.
I take it you are in Germany? They are only available for shipping there.

Hi Burke,
no, I did not buy those Bongos, even because it was around 9,00 euros+shipping, I was not sure if it was an good idee when I do not have so much experience. I think I will try to see if when I can get a pair that have not much problems and I can immediate play. I'm just a begginer, so will try get a Meinl bongo for not so much money...maybe 25,00 euros
I see on this forum many beautiful Bongos with very nice wood and things...but very expwnsive! Thanks again for opions!
