This is my first time on the forum, and I have to tell you all, it's a great place for advise and education!
I saw these on ebay just earlier and knew they couldn't be real. I do have to say, I bought a very similar pair of these old LP-ish bongos on ebay about 2 years ago, paid $20 bucks for them. They were the set I learned on, and I actually like them very much. I'm pretty sure the ones I have at least are mahogany. I like them so much that I took them up to Jay Bereck to have the hardware re-enforced and put new skins on and they actually sound better than my Matador set with JCR skins, they're much lighter too which makes them more comfortable for me. I attached a pic for you to see.
Anyways, the ones on ebay like mine are definitely NOT LP.

Jay makes exceptional hardware. Here's a set he made for me earlier this year. Lightweight with strong hardware. Beautiful sound worth the investment. Matthew Smith is also a great artisan of percussive instruments. Check him out as well. Peace.

Yes, I'm very familiar with both of these outstanding artisans. I have a set of tumbadoras (12" and 13") that Jay made for me. The day I went to his place to pick them up he also made us a spaghetti feast! An amazing and truly gifted human.
I've also had the pleasure of meeting and visiting Matthew at his shop. I had him make me a new crown for my old Junior Tirado tres-dos. Matthew was also a gem of a person and the Lord has blessed his hands for sure.
I'd like to get a set of bongos by either of them but haven't yet. My bongo collection is a little out of control right now, with two from Cali Rivera being my main sets. Cali is another amazing person that I love visiting when I have the time.

Loud projection, crisp macho, mellow bassy hembra, built like a tank and could take el castigo de los cueros. My second choice would be the Bloodwood Valjes they absolutely scream. I'm getting the hardware redone by Matthew Smith to have a second set of hardware in chrome to go with the set. Not too far behind would be the SOS followed by the Caribbean Rhythms sets. This would be my order of preference.

Matthew Smith made the hardware for the CR set, thick & rugged to accommodate the thickness of the shell body. I outfitted that bongo set with a new thin mule on the macho and it pops beautifully. The original head was olive oil treated, thicker but with less crisp pops when slapping or playing a standard martillo pattern. A little heavy but solid nonetheless.

. Man those Bongos had me salivating all over the place. I really dig those new LP's, Joey De Leon has that same pair, I seen him play them in a club in Whittier, Ca. they sound very good. How do you like them?
