Everything's a bongo

Hey all,

Thought I'd share a bit of humor with you other bongoceros out there. Have you ever noticed that to some people, if it's a hand drum, it's a bongo. You know you're lucky. If you're reading this, and if you play the bongos, you play the most popular percussion instrument known to man! My congas are bongos to church friends, my tambora is a 2-sided bongo to my family, and my friend's djembe is a bongo as we jam at our annual festival gig. I bet if I had a dime for every time I heard someone talk about my "bongos" I'd have enough $ 4 the nice LP Matadors with the fancy PR flag logo :)

Then there's its use in music. Using this definition, bongos are used in everything from salsa & merengue to rock & roll to African folk music. I went to this church once that had an amazing set-up: next to their drum kit was what I'd call a hand drum kit. It had congas, bongos, a djembe, and this big round thing that was unlike anything I've seen or heard before. It was kinda like a half-hour glass (or the top part of an hourglass) and it had BASS. I mean boomin' room-fillin' ground-shakin' bass. What was it, you ask? A bongo. :D

So, if you'd like to share your laughs about the big bongo mix-up or just wanna mess around feel free 2 respond.

jajaja. This happens to me every time I play at a white-boy church (no offense to my white (anglo) friends). My congas, djembe and bongos are all bongos and my pleneras are tambourines.

Coon bops? Seriously? I could see "Gon Bops" since that's an actual conga brand... but Coon Bops? I picture some guy playing one of those whack-a-mole type games except they're raccoons :P

Oh well< I guess some ppl just don't know a conga from a bongo, but that was kinda the point of this cheesy thread. :)
